[Giveaway] L’oreal White Perfect Laser, even better than IPL?

Recently, I attended a blogger event with June by L’oreal where they made a bold claim; that their latest L’oreal White Perfect Laser whitening skincare range had proven clinical results which resemble the aftermath of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL).

Don’t mind my sickly, pasty white face as I was down was a bad flu and nearly forgotten all about this event till I got the reminder from L’oreal.

Check out the stars of the night:

Left to right; White Perfect Laser Anti-Spot Brightening Essence (S$39.90) and the All-Round Whitening Cream SPF19/PA+++ (S$32.90)

We all know that IPL as a popular though pricey method to whiten the skin. Others go for vitamin C drips which are also not very friendly on the pocket, costing a few hundreds a go. With the L’oreal White Perfect Laser, fairer and brighter skin seems achievable in a more affordable manner.

Details on how to WIN a L’oreal Youth Code Boosting Essence (S$39.90) & UV Perfect sunscreen SPF 30 PA+++ (S$17.90) under the cut…

Coping with acne or sensitive skin during pregnancy

Skin changes during pregnancy is very natural and previously, I had blogged about sensitive skin during pregnancy. You can read all about it Here. Along with sensitive skin comes acne problems too.

Skin around my back has gotten blotchy with blackheads and my face is still sensitive. Sometimes after removing my makeup, my skin would appear red and angry. So in order to calm and soothe it, I use my LMS LED Spotlight 24 gadget.

You might be skeptical about using LED lights during pregnancy but it’s perfectly safe if you are using it on your face or any part of your body other than your abdomen. If still in doubt, do always check with your doctor for advise.

Because the LMS Spotlight 24 is the largest gadget among the rest; the 3 & the 8. It has a bigger surface area and hence, is suitable for body parts such as the back. And it can cover each side of the cheek too.

So why am I using it even though I don’t have acne on my face? Because LED lights not only zaps pimples but it also has the following benefits:

  •  Minimizes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crow`s feet
  • Clears blemishes and minimizes pores
  • Improves the appearance of skin tone and texture
  • Restores skin’s natural collagen production
  • Reduces melanin that causes brown spots
  • Reduces the effects of sun-damaged skin
  • Increases circulation and moisture
  • Reduces skin degradation, redness and flushing
  • Decreases scarring, redness, dry patches, itching and sensitivity caused by eczema
  • Stimulates and activates naturally occurring metabolic function and nutritional elements (Source: http://www.o2planet.com/led/index.html)

And yes, I do wake up to skin looking pumped up and better. As for the blackheads on my back, I’m starting a routine of regular scrubs to exfoliate the dead skin cells and blackheads. I’m currently using the Aqua Rine scrub. Regular scrubbing would help to unclog the congestion around the affected area.

Now, I’m just hoping I won’t get afflicted with melasma.

[Giveaway] Make your skin smile with Mary Kay

This was my first Mary Kay event and it was an interesting one. I’ve heard of Mary Kay products but have not tried any. This is because Mary Kay is exclusively available through direct selling only; so you won’t see these in stores or at the beauty counters. Mary Kay is a US company but its products can be bought worldwide in more than 35 countries. This includes both Malaysia and Singapore.

The motto behind the new skincare range which was being introduced to us was ‘Make your skin smile’ and so we actually got to indulge in some laughing exercises before the presentation begin. You know, they say ‘Laughter is the best medicine’ and some people actually practice this to keep themselves healthy and fit.

It was kind of awkward but a rather eye-opening experience for me. I think I do laugh enough since people around me are always making me LOL.

Applying Makeup Correctly

Truth be told, my eyes widened upon seeing that this week’s assignment is on how to apply makeup properly. And I should be the last person to blog about this because I am seriously no makeup expert. I can’t even blend eyeshadow properly at all (as you can see below)

Luckily, there’s a Beauty Section in My Fat Pocket where you can find all sort of beauty-related articles such as Beauty Reviews and Beauty Tips! While under the How-To column you get Beauty Tutorial Videos. Super informative, yeah?

[Review] Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing UV Milk with SPF50 PA+++

If you do follow my blog, you will know that I am a Hada Labo fan! This will be the 5th product I am going to review. So excited to try it out after receiving it. If you wish to read up my other reviews, please CLICK HERE!

38ml for S$19.90, retailing exclusively at Watsons

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing UV Milk with SPF50 PA+++ is a 3-In-1 Sun Protection which offers High Sun Protection While Caring For Skin. This multipurpose UV milk has 3-in-1 benefits: UV Protection, Hydration, and Make-Up Base

The UV milk is gentle on skin, as it is free of artificial ingredients such fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol and colorant that may burden the skin. This UV milk also keeps the skin’s pH balanced, and is rigorously tested for low skin irritation.

Sounds good, yeah? This is why I’m so excited to try it out. Especially since I have sensitive skin now, I wasn’t sure about experimenting with new products. But so far, Hada Labo products have been gentle on my skin. So I took the plunge…

As you can see, the bottle is pretty small and handy. Which makes it convenient to just bring it along anywhere.  I also like how it doubles up as a makeup base too. Just check out the texture:

This reminds me of another Japanese brand of sunscreen that is very popular. The runny liquid may seem watery but do not be fooled by its appearence. After a few rubs, it turns into what seems like a powdery touch. The skin is then protected with sunscreen but there is no unsightly white cast.

Because it is also a makeup base, makeup goes on smoothly after that and stays throughout the day. This is defintely another product by Hada Labo worth checking out.

Overall Rating:

Sensitive skin during pregnancy

Just a few days back, I noticed that I had a mild rash spreading across my face. It was like a skin allergy of some sort. My pores were red and angry-looking and it felt sensitive. I thought it was just a one-off incident but no.

A few nights later, after surviving the days with aloe vera gel on, I tried to apply a sleeping mask. But it made my skin sting and turn red almost instantly. While removing my makeup last night, I could see my skin turn reddish too.

This is something new for me because I do not have sensitive skin to begin. I did some research online and found that it’s normal. When you are pregnant, your hormones levels increase and this could cause skin to become more delicate. Especially when its exposed to sunlight, so sunscreen is still very vital.

Some women would experience ‘glowing’ skin, because increased blood circulation keeps the skin pumped up, while the skin also retains more moisture. Sadly, I’m not experiencing that…

Another skin change that you might encounter would be chloasma, a type of pigmentation which is also known as the ‘mask of pregnancy’. The main culprit behind this is the increased production of melanin. If exposed to sunlight without sufficient sun protection, the patches could get darker and often look unsightly.

Anyway, if you are suffering from sensitive skin like in my case, try Aloe Vera Gel for the moment. It’ll calm and soothe the skin till its ready to start using your usual skincare regime.

Pregnancy Pillows : Do you want/need one?

This is why I love to surf international forums, because I get to learn a lot about stuff uncommon in Singapore. Remember abut the fetal dopplers I had blogged about previously OVER HERE? It’s not very popular over here, I doubt any of the currently pregnant mothers-to-be around me know of this nifty little gadget.

Anyway, my next topic would be pregnancy pillows, which are also not really that well-known or loved over here. Some find them impractical and not necessary.

Pregnancy pillows come in all shapes and are for cushioning the belly and back to relieve aches and insomnia suffered from later stages of pregnancy. There are the ones which are U-shaped, the really long flat ones that resemble a gigantic bolster, the boomerang-shaped and the simple pillow wedge.

These different shapes cater to different pregnant ladies’ needs. Some prefer a U-shape one for both back and front support whereas some find the wedge pillow slotted under the belly sufficient. Some women make do without it by building a fortress of pillows around them, in hope that the pillows would provide them with enough cushioning and comfort.

Pregnancy pillows however do not come cheap in Singapore. So far, based on my research, they cost at least over a S$100 with some brands going for S$150+ at shops like Mothercare.

A need or want? You decide.
