William Tan is no stranger to those in the blogging scene since he is one of the early starters in the industry in Singapore. He has always been slim but with a dip in his metabolic rate as age caught up, he found it difficult to shed the excess pounds. William, then, after much consideration, decided to go for a liposuction procedure recently and we interview him to find out more about it.
What made you want to go for liposuction?
Every morning, I stare at myself in my mirror and I tell myself that I need to do something about my body since I have put on substantial weight over the past years. Sometimes I just wish that I can take a knife and cut off the fats but we all know that not possible.
I can no longer fit into clothes that I used to wear 2-3 years ago. Friends who have not seen me for very long all said that I put on “a little” weight, but I know they are being kind. I put on about 10 kg and can no longer fit into size S clothes. I think having a good body can somehow affect a person's behaviour. It definitely makes you a more confident person.
Did you consider other options before going straight for liposuction?
I did cut down on my carbs and go for runs at least once a week. I even went to google online for weight loss remedies and tried Lemon Cucumber Ginger Mint Water which was supposed to help me lose weight. But after trying for about 1 month, there was no significant improvement.
How was the initial consultation with Dr Martin Huang? Did he give you any advice?
He was very professional and experienced. He asked me about my areas of concern and examined my problem areas. He told me I can try either CoolSculpting or Liposuction to get rid of the excess fat. He explained each treatment to me in detail so that I can make an informed choice.
Any prep work that you need to do before the surgery?
Yes, I was told not to eat or drink after midnight and strictly no alcohol too.
How did you feel before the surgery? Are you worried?
I’m excited and can’t wait to get rid of the fats from my body. I’m actually not too worried because I know I’m in good hands since Dr Martin Huang is trained and experienced.
Was there any discomfort after the surgery? How did you feel?
There were burning sensations and some pins and needles in the treated area after the surgery.
How was the after-care like?
I was allowed to go home and rest after the procedure on D-day. There wasn't much after-care except that I had to put on the elastic compression garment over my body for the next 1-2 months. I didn’t mind this because I can remove the compression garment for my showers.
Do you have to follow up with other treatments at the clinic post-surgery?
Yes, Dr Huang recommended me to go back to the clinic for Indiba treatments which can help to speed up the recovery.
How long did it take before you see visible results? Are you satisfied with the results?
In fact, I could see immediate results right after the surgery. Despite the bruises and swelling after the treatment, I can tell that my tummy is so much smaller and Dr Huang said that it will get smaller over the next few months.
What advice would you give to your readers who are contemplating on going for liposuction?
I would say that it is of utmost importance to choose the right doctor. Someone who you are comfortable with and who can guide you through your decision-making process.
