NY Fashion Week SS 2014: Carolina Herrera Launched Nightwear with Arielle Shapiro

We doubt we’d ever see Carolina Herrera trade her elegant stiff-collared white button downs for pjs a la Marc Jacobs, but the designer understands that sleepwear is having a “moment.” She’s teamed up with young lingerie designer Arielle Shapiro, who designs the line Ari Dein, on a capsule collection of luxury sleepwear.

The hard-working 27-year-old designer, whom we recently profiled in our How I’m Making It Series, says she’s still pinching herself.

“The brand has always been a beacon of elegance, something to aspire to,” Shapiro told us. “I’ve been enamored with Carolina Herrera my whole life.”

The partnership came about, Shapiro says, thanks to the CFDA incubator program, which she’s a part of. The Carolina Herrera team noticed Shapiro’s collection during an open house. “The open house was in February and by April we all sat down and worked it out,” Shapiro says.

The final product features three styles: a camisole and boyshort pairing, a slip, and a menswear inspired set with monogramming at the breast pocket. “We tried to stick with silhouettes that are significant for Ari Dein–a great slip, a quintessential pj set, and the camisole and the short–but with nods to Carolina Herrera. That’s where the grosgrain ribbon trim comes in.”

“It wasn’t hard to come up with something that encapsulated both brands,” Shapiro added.

The collection will be sold at Herrera’s four flagship stores (in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Bar Harbour) starting in November and will be priced between $460 to $650.
