HEALTH & WELLNESS

Binge Drinking kills faster than cigarettes. Am not saying smoking does not contribute to shortening of life but alcohol has significantly contributed to more danger and unforeseen social factors. Well… besides drugs, of course.
Bruce drinks too much and does not know when to stop. That is the basic gist of binge drinking. And he has the habit of one. Perhaps two of the contributing factors are that [1] his dad drinks a lot too and often asked Bruce to company him for drinks. [2] And also, he used to club so much that drinking has become a habit.
When Bruce's drunk, he was preposterous. He would lie down and sleep on the sidewalk, kissed and hugged random strangers, etc. He has also done enough mental damage to his girlfriend due to his drinking - pushing her onto the road in his drunken stupor.

He is a very smart man actually; brilliant in his job. When sober, he is a dedicated worker, filial son, romantic lover and a very kind person. But alcohol has made him skipped work and got him in trouble with the law couple of times– hit and run while drunk driving, arguing with the police officers, sleeping on walkways, fighting, etc – he became everything he is not…

Nothing seems to be able to stop him from his occasional drinking pleasure; not even when his girlfriend,Gabriella, attempted suicide with an overdose of sleeping pills or gave him the cold treatment for a month.
Nothing stops him from that poison. Not even his crying, exasperated mother.

Blood, tears and cold silence treatment did not wake him up. Although he promised Gabriella countless times that he would turn a teetotaler, Bruce now turned to lying when he succumbed. He would give excuses of “Oh I took the wrong glass of beer,” or “I did not know the glass contained alcohol”… He was once caught drinking secretly in the toilet of a coffee shop; discarding the empty can of beer amongst the window panes of the latrine.
Bruce denied endlessly. He was that desperate for a drink. And Gabriella was desperately sad.
It is because of this dangerous habit of his, Gabriella is delaying marriage fearing that he might get drunk everyday. She begged and cried to his mom to knock sense into him. Nothing works at all. He is pushing her away with alcohol.
His pleasure is her pain...
The pitiful person here is not Bruce but Gabriella, for she worries day in and out for him. She worries if he would ever cheat on her when he gets drunk. She wants to love him more but is afraid. She wants to settle down with him but is paralyzed with fear. Each time she wanted to leave the relationship, Bruce promises the sky and moon to her. But words remain mere words...
Alcoholic Association didn’t help. She blames his dad. Sometimes she wonders if she is to be blamed. Conversely, nobody can force you to do the things you do not want to do.
Bruce has reduced his alcohol intake but occasionally, he succumbed. One may be tempted but at the end of it all, it takes discipline, love and responsibility to want to make a change. For temptation is everywhere and comes in all forms. Clubs can open till wee hours. Pubs can have attractive booze promotion. It is all up to the individual to make a change. All they have to do is WANT to make a change.
Binge drinking destroys a home, destroys all hope and possibly a happy future. Do not start drinking from young or it will be a habit that becomes your second oxygen. In the long run, alcohol separates your family, and your mind from your body.

Female binge drinkers suffer worse risks than men.
If you binge drink because of peer pressure, know that you do not live your life to impress them. Friends come and go. Your life is yours to treasure.
If you binge drink because of stress, know that there are 1001 things to release tension and stress.
If you binge drink often for the fun of it, you are digging your own grave.
And I am saying this with love, people please…hold your liquor.
