As much as I love traveling and wishing (or maybe planning) to migrate to Australia, I cannot deny that Singapore is my home and always will be.
Yes I always whine that Singapore is boring, it is small, there are no mountains, no other seasons and more and more but I know if I were to live in another country, I will not feel safe and comfortable as compared to living here.
This year Simon bidded for NDP tickets and we were lucky enough to get the tickets for the preview session. This is my first time attending NDP albeit only a preview but it is also the first time I truly feel like a Singaporean. Although the crowd pissed me off, with people pushing and stepping on my feet, it’s really amazing to see everyone wearing red, getting together to celebrate National Day.
I am not sure if they are truly patriotic or just want to attend a major event but to me the fact that everyone is there represent a kind of unity. And this if stronger can represent a lot more things. Especially when the number of terrorist threats are increasing, it is really comforting to see that we are standing together as a community.
I am also grateful that I’m born in Singapore because we are a very safe country (compared to other countries!). A lot of people, including myself, tend to take things for granted. We complain about every single thing, we are more angry than grateful, we never pictured ourselves living in countries where the citizens have to live in anxiety every single day.
Of course I have my own frustrations too, I’m sure you do as well, but shouldn’t we focus on the good things here instead of the bad? By focusing on the positive things, it also helps us to be a better and happier individual.
Well back to the idea of migrating, it’s just a thought la, I don’t think I can survive in another country, there’re so many things I have to change about myself and the way I live. I am sure I will be super home sick as well. The Singlish, the dialect, the people, the culture and the food here.
And most importantly my family and friends are all here in Singapore! Can’t imagine how life would be separated from all my/our closed ones.
At the end of the day as much as I love exploring and travelling, Singapore is still where my roots lie. That’s why I say this is my home, this is where I belong. I love you Singapore!
This is my country, this is my flag.
This is my future, this is my life.
This is my family, these are my friends.
We are Singapore, Singaporeans!
