When you look at your bedroom, do you see piles of clothes, stacks of paperwork, mismatched bedding, so much junk on your desk that you can no longer see the tabletop? Does your room scream Sexy or is it .. well.. just a fright?
But don’t worry, July being the month of Sales, it’s easy to transform your bedroom into a love nest with a few simple purchases!
Firstly, before you make room for the new, you need to get rid of the old (and tattered, and useless, and childish). You aim now is to give your bedroom a sensual atmosphere. This means keeping it clutter free. Banish the TV from your bedroom. It is not the place to watch the latest episode of Glee. There is nothing less sexy than being distracted by TV noise during love making.
Budget Purchase 1: Mirrors
You can get huge inexpensive mirrors from Ikea. Have a DIY day and mount them onto the walls on your own. Adding mirrors to your bedroom will add depth and dimension to an otherwise cramped looking bedroom. Mirror are also very sexy when it comes to love making. Position them ideally so you can see your reflection while in bed.
Budget Purchase 2: Low Wattage Bulbs
Low wattage bulbs are cheap and they use less electricity. This will instantly make your room look warmer and it will remind you less of your old secondary school classroom lights. Lighting in the bedroom should be soft and filtered since bright lights can detract from the ambiance.
Budget Purchase 3: Aromatherapy Candles
You can get cheap ones at Ikea. With these candles, you kill two birds with one stone.. which is great because essential oils are soooo over-priced. Burning the candles will send calming or sensual scents throughout the bedroom and soft flickering candlelight is visually very romantic. Remember to choose a scent that your lover and you both like, Vanilla is a common favourite.
Budget Purchase 4: Music
Be sure to include music options for your sense of sound. But don’t pirate music. You can be cheap but don’t be a cheat ok. If you have an iPod, invest in a bedside sound system. These can be relatively cheap (yet good looking… pink even!) China made ones from places such as Carefour. If you don’t have an iPod, then buy a few of your favorite CDs. Soft love music is one of the easiest ways to elevate your mood. This can also help cancel out any noises from outside the bedroom as well as mask the noise you’ll be making inside the bedroom.
Budget Purchase 5: Plain Sheets
I’m not asking you to invest in Egyptian cotton sheets.. but just get rid of your shitty floral type bedsheets that your mother bought from the HDB shop downstairs. Buy the best plain white or cream sheets you can afford. What makes sleeping at a hotel so sexy? It’s not the mint on the pillow. It’s the soft, crisp, easy-to-slide-between sheets. If you want to add details, do it with little accents of velvet, or leopard prints (cushions, etc).
Budget Purchase 6: Bucket of Paint
The color you paint your walls impacts your mood. White walls can make your bedroom feel clinical and less intimate. Paint your walls a warm earthy tone with a yellow base. If the brighter shades are too much for your taste, try using pastel warm tones.
There you have it, six simple and inexpensive purchases which will transform your room into the perfect love nest. (And I meant it when I said get rid of the TV!)
