Believe it or not, this is certainly not a post-April Fool gimmick! McDonald’s had just made it easier for us to start our day on a healthy note with its red rice porridge!
Created together with the local chef- Anna Lim (founder of Soup Spoon), the Red Rice Porridge not only contain wholesome ingredients (beancurd, corn, goji, shiitake mushroom and sweet potato) but carries these 3 facts that you need to know:
1. Higher in Iron & Zinc
While all whole grains are nutritious, the russet coloured grain (per serving) contains approximately 6 times the amount of zinc and twice the iron when compared to the brown rice. These minerals are essential for creating healthy red blood cells and enhancing the immune system. Besides, the red rice is rich in anthocyanins (which give it its colour) that deliver protective antioxidant properties and anti-carcinogenic activities, which aid in cardiovascular disease and cancer prevention. All we can say is, the red rice is indeed an excellent choice of carbohydrate.
2. Low in Fat
The grain contains less than 1.6 g of fat per serving, which makes it a great low-fat choice for a nutritious breakfast. Besides red rice is high in fibre which aids in weight management, as high-fibre foods generally provide satiety and keep one feeling full for a longer period.
