Can you please explain to us by Kose’s tagline of “Beauty is Technology with Emotion”?
Fostering beauty by offering quality products from superb technology so that women grow to feel more confident of themselves and see the other side of beauty that they may not have thought existed.
Kose is one of the top cosmetics manufacturers in Japan and in the world. How is the market in Singapore for Kose?
We are still maintaining a strong foothold in this increasingly competitive industry by constantly aiming to meet our customers’ needs. In fact, we are reaching out to the younger generation to expand our consumer base and thus, “re-innovating” our marketing strategies.
What is Kose’s target audience?
We have got different product range for different skin needs. Hence, it really depends on your skin type and specific needs. As long as you feel a need to use skincare, KOSE will have the right targeted range for you.
What kind of marketing campaigns or advertising does Kose do?
To gain greater exposure, we are constantly exploring new avenues and platforms as a form of differentiation as well. Recently, we have received lots of positive feedback from the mask white campaign where we collaborated with Catalog Magazine in Facebook, using social media as the main ad medium and rorscharh ink-blot test as its concept and by playing up with bold contrasting colours like black and white, it does focus on one of the mask’s USP and with an intriguing visual, it has certainly caught the attention of Fb users.
“It’s refreshing, new, edgy, bold”- these are just some of the common feedbacks that we had and we will work towards having more of such positive responses in the future hopefully. But of course, I have to highlight that different brands reach out to different target group hence will be skewed to varying strategies nonetheless.
We are also having lots of events at various shopping malls islandwide as we hope to bring the brand closer to the consumers. This 12th June, we have specially invited Olivia Ong to hold a mini music showcase at 5pm as well as a beauty talkshow.

Can you please explain the difference between Kose Junkisui, Kose Seikisho , Kose Sekkisei and Kose Sekkisei Supreme?
All brands use natural Japanese and Chinese ingredients. Sekkisei Supreme, which is launched in 2009, promotes an overall well-being by having white ginger as part of its aroma therapy properties while you indulge in your daily skincare regimen. Sekkisei lotion, our hero product since its debut in 1985 has legions of fans adoring its whitening properties and light texture with ultra-quick absorption which is fantastic for a humid climate like Singapore.
One of our iconic product, Mask white (which is actually a black mask) is from Seikisho range, using all natural ingredients to promote clarifty and whitening while removing the impurities that have clogged up your pores. Junkisui works on those who has acne-prone or oily skin using Chinese Lovage water, Moutan Bark and Peony Root extracts derived via a high-grade bacteria-free distillation method and blended.
Contains a fragrant substance called Phthalides that is said to also have a sterilization effect.

Are there any new products or lines that we can expect in 2010 from Kose?
It’s Sekkisei 25th Anniversary this year and with that, Sekkisei Supreme base make-up range has just been launched using Olivia Ong as our local Spokesperson. This talented singer enunciate the side of beauty that reflects perfectly well on the brand image KOSE advocates.
Natural, radiant, flawless. This is one of the biggest launches we have this year. In fact, KOSE was the first in the world to launch 2 –way powder foundation!
Amazing as it seems, the Base make-up and powder foundation are selling like hot cakes now. For the next half, do look out for our new collection from our make-up range that promise to sizzle with fall/winter collection /runaway colours you will love.

Foundation is the fundamental step, a good foundation should maintain a close fit to your skin despite the weather changes or varying skin type. It’s important to sweep on the foundation gently without pulling the skin which ultimately will cause the skin sag. So girls! Bear this in mind if you do not wish to face premature aging!

It is formulated with black nano powder that readily disperses onto the skin, adhering tightly onto your skin, thanks to its excellent film forming power.

In your own definition, what makes a woman modern and smart?
Having the right amount of self- confidence would be the factor to these 2 qualities. What makes a woman modern would be the way she carries herself. Be it physical appearance, dressing, thinking/ opinions. You set your own trends, you owe your own thoughts.
And you have to have that confidence to project these well. Otherwise, who knows that you’re smart?
What, to you, is being financially independent?
To be able to spend the money you earn on self-indulging favourites that are both pampering and rejuvenating. I need to go on a long trip at least once a year and I always tell myself, I work hard to travel.
But ultimately, its about spending money within your limits and also, how to grow your money!!
Do you think you are financially savvy and smart? Why?
Good enough to have some decent savings despite travelling to places from time to time. Bad cos the money tree isn’t growing as fast as I expected. Humans are a never-satisfied lot, haha!
