The fashion scene is currently filled with throwbacks – from the revival of Dad sneakers and the logo mania from the ’90s, to the classic items from luxury houses like the Saddlebag from the ’00s. Hence, we aren’t surprised when Skechers collaborated with L.A Gear to bring us back to 1988 with the exact sneakers that we wore as kids.
If you are like me, someone who loves anything nostalgic with a story to tell, you wouldn’t miss the Skechers X L.A Gear Slammer Collection. Fronted by both Michael Jackson and NBA star player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, L.A. Gear’s basketball sneakers were iconic shoes that represented a generation. Skechers has joined forces with the brand to relaunch the 1988 L.A. Gear Slammer – the first basketball-inspired fashion sneaker created for women.
The new Slammer features the same mid-top retro basketball design, with coloured accents and piping as well as the vintage-style L.A. Gear print logo across the heel panel, but has been updated to feature Skechers’ Air Cooled Memory Foam comfort insole. The mid-top athletic style makes the shoe great for pairing with skinny jeans, leggings, and skirts for that retro flair.
The Skechers X L.A. Gear Slammer ($129) is available in sizes US 5-11 with three colourways – Black, White, as well as White & Light Pink.
Now available at selected Skechers concept stores: Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Plaza Singapura, Jewel Changi Airport, Jurong Point, VivoCity (Lifestyle Store) and Bugis Junction (Lifestyle Store).
