Travelling has come to a halt amidst the global pandemic, and that is totally reflected in Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton Cruise 2021 collection which he plays with the contradiction of a “stationary journey”.
Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton, unveiled his Cruise 2021 collection, embarking on a “very personal journey through his past, present, and the endless possibilities for the future.” “It explores Nicolas Ghesquière’s signature territory of style-driven emotions, memorable colours, enthralling cuts, and curated wardrobe expertise.”
Louis Vuitton Cruise 2021 collection was shot at the designer’s studio at Louis Vuitton’s headquarters in Paris, and the recurring theme of staying-in during the lockdown was prevalent in the whole concept – The indoor set, fire extinguisher, the filing cabinet, plastic chairs, metallic bins, and the blue ladder.
The most eye-catching detail in the collection was how Ghesquiere played with the Louis Vuitton monogram, mashing them up with the shapes and suits from poker cards. Why poker cards, you may ask. As explored by Ghesquière, poker cards is a game played by travellers for generations, and yet it provides an escape without us having to go anywhere, and hence the “stationary journey”.
Let’s take take a sneak peek at the Cruise 2021 collection. We are already itching to get our hands on the heart shape mongram bag, and the vanity case with mash up monogram and poker motifs!
