Singapore’s leading Health & Beauty Retail Brand, Watsons, unveils Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) on every Tuesday, starting 1st December, across all its 100 stores islandwide, as part of its #SayNotToPlasticBags sustainability campaign aimed at reducing the consumption of plastic bags in its retail operations.
Customers will be charged $0.10 for every transaction involving a request for plastic bag(s), and 100% of proceeds from the bag charge will be donated to support World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Singapore)’s conservation efforts, including critical projects related to reducing plastic in nature.
In addition, Watsons has rolled out their artfully designed non-woven reusable bags, priced at $1.20, made with 100% polypropylene as an option to purchase at its stores to encourage customers to cut down the consumption of plastic bags.
Joining over 450 brands worldwide, Watsons’ parent company, A.S. Watsons has signed as one of the signatories of the New Plastic Economy Global Commitment.This initiative unifies the global value chain behind a common vision for upstream solutions, supported by action-oriented targets for sustainability.
Watsons is taking dedicated steps towards building a sustainable world of living by introducing HDPE plastic bags with 50% recycled plastic content, up from its existing 10% -15% by Q1 2021. With BYOB Tuesday in place, Watsons can potentially reduce up to 30% of plastic bags being issued in a year.
