Beauty Routine For Every Occasion

Do you have a one-size-fits-all beauty routine? If your answer is a Yes, it is time to revisit it and customised to every occasion.


After a night of clubbing or drinking

A late night or excessive alcohol deprives our skin of water. The inadequate sleeping time also slows down the rejuvenating process and cell renewal is delayed. Furthermore, excessive amount of wines and liquors causes dehydration that is evident on our skin the next morning. Alcohol promotes the making of urine in excess. In turn, your body discharge more water than usual. Some of us might experience water retention due to the lost of water. Your body tries to retain water causing certain parts of your body such as under eye lid or toes to bloat.

What you should do…

Intensive hydration care helps to replenish the lost moisture from your skin. If you sleep in an air-conditioned room, the product has to be ‘heavy duty’. To double the hydration effect, apply an overnight sleeping mask after your moisturiser. This will seal in the moisture and deliver faster and better results. If you are experiencing water retention around the face, apply a thicker coat of overnight hydration mask. For hydration moisturiser, we recommend Aqualabel Moisture Cream. For overnight hydration mask, we recommend Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX($45).


Post workout

The perspiring brings about an excessive amount of sebum on the skin. The accumulation could lead to acne breakout. Apart from this, our face is prone to bacterial and germs through various contacts: towel, machines and mats. If you are having a cardiovascular workout, the increase of blood circulation opens up the pores which makes it even more vulnerable.

What you should do…

Deep pore cleansing is crucial after every workout session. Choose a deep cleanser that will get rid of the grime and dirt effortlessly. You can also choose a medication cleanser to lower the chances of getting an infection.  After cleansing, hydrate with a light moisturiser, preferably gel-based. Your body is still going through a cooling down process and might perspire again. A light moisturiser will not laden your skin but hydrate it. For cleanser, we recommend Ettusais Pore Care Wash($30). For light moisturiser, we recommend Biotherm Aquasource gel($69).

After a day at the beach

A day of UV-bathing can be damaging even with sunscreen applied. Not only your skin is under a prolonged exposure of external aggressors, it is also prone to dehydration and ageing. The pores expand under the heat and oil-based sunscreen could clogged them easily. The sand and dirt worsen the situation.

What you should do…

If you are experiencing sun burnt, apply aloe vera gel generously over affected areas. Do not apply any oil-based products as it will only worsen the situation. Otherwise, choose a hydrating anti-ageing mask for an intensive facial treatment. Alternatively, you can opt for a hydrating whitening mask. Most likely, you are not able to reverse the UV damages completely. Your skin may have lost a substantial amount of moisture and in need of a good ‘recharge’. After the mask, apply a good anti-ageing serum that is able to rectify DNA damages. For facial mask, we recommend SK-II Skin Signature 3D Redefining Mask($176 for 6 sheets) or Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Brightening Mask($100 for 6 sheets). For anti-ageing serum, we recommend Lancaster 365 Cellular Elixir Intense serum.

You are suffering from jetlag

Your bio-clock is in a mess. You are wide awake during bedtime and dozed off at every meeting in the morning. Your skin is suffering too. It looks lacklustre and dehydrated. The next thing you wish to do is to sleep non-stop and let your skin rest.

What you should do…

Apart from the lack of a normal sleeping cycle, your skin’s renewal routine is most likely disturbed and sluggish. This is in relation to the level of exhaustion you are experiencing right now. Avoid harsh treatments such as chemical peels or any form of aesthetic procedures. Treat your skin to a series of rejuvenating treatments. The key to well-rested skin is to keep it hydrated and protected from UV rays. Always keep it moisturised and apply sunscreen in the morning. For day, we recommend Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum. For night, we recommend Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil.
