Ever since I entered my mid-twenties, I’ve noticed how I can look really tired because of my dark eye circles and eye bags.
The first step for me was to tighten and lift the skin of my undereye area with Ultherapy®. This treatment utilised focused ultrasound and my body’s own natural healing process to not only tighten, but also lift and tone loose skin of my undereye area.
With Dr. Terence Tan at Halley Medical Aesthetics
I was informed that the results from Ultherapy do take at least two to three months to show, so for a more instant improvement to my undereye area (and also taking into account my undereye condition), Dr. Terence Tan from Halley Medical Aesthetics also prescribed a treatment that coupled a threadlift with dermal fillers for the undereye area.
Is it Necessary for Both the Threadlift and Dermal Fillers?
Intently listening to the prescribed treatment during my consultation with Dr. Terence Tan
After all, with Ultherapy, Threadlift, and Dermal Fillers, that’s three different procedures to solve a single concern. Isn’t less more?
In my case, due to my sunken tear trough, minimally I’d still need dermal fillers to counter the loss of volume and plump up the hollow area underneath my eyes.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are an injectable solution made of medically safe ingredients that can help fill up soft tissues under our skin. It’s typically used for sculpting of the face, adding definition and restoring facial contours giving rise to a more youthful appearance.
The most popular type of fillers is hyaluronic acid fillers since hyaluronic acid is a natural compound already found in the body. Already popularised by countless skincare companies, most people are also aware of it’s benefits to our skin. It hydrates and volumizes skin.
In terms of eye rejuvenation, dermal fillers are really effective in smoothening fine lines, filling the undereye hollow and also camouflage the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.
I was introduced to the Belotero range of dermal fillers
In my case, I was recommended the Belotero® range of dermal fillers. Two types of the Belotero dermal fillers – Belotero® Soft and Belotero® Intense were used to minimise the appearance of my fine lines and create a natural looking result. In addition, the Belotero fillers were less likely to result in the Tyndall effect, a bluish hue that can be seen under the skin due to light reflecting off the injected filler that sits superficially under the skin.
Dr. Tan is extremely jovial and friendly and that makes it easier to ask him questions on the treatment
For the best effect, a threadlift finally not just enhances the results but also provides added support to the treated undereye area.
What’s a Threadlift?
Threadlifts are minimally invasive treatments that are done to tighten the skin, contour and rejuvenate the face, neck and eye area. It can even be used to enhance the shape of the nose.
During the procedure, threads with cone-like anchors are inserted under the skin and act as scaffolds to lift sagging skin. These threads also stimulate the skin over time to produce collagen for a long-lasting and natural-looking lift. No incisions are made and no stitches are necessary. The threads are eventually fully absorbed by the body.
Dr. Tan explaining how the Derma Spring Eye threadlift would help
Dr. Terence Tan used N-finders’ Derma Spring Eye PDO (polydioxanone) threads on me.
These threads have been specially designed for the eye area and it has a special micro-cannula which enhances comfort. The cannula inserts the thread by gently pushing aside the skin, greatly minimising the risk of bruising and bleeding.
The benefits of the threadlift for my undereye area was apparent after the consultation
The PDO threads not only contours the skin, it also stimulates collagen production so that the skin gets a natural-looking lift over time, and lipolysis which leads to the reduction of fats under the eye. This is super effective for removing dark eye circles, wrinkles and sagging around the eyes.
What Was The Treatment Experience Like?
Injecting Belotero Soft into my upper cheek area
Dr. Terence Tan not only plumped up my sunken tear trough with the Belotero Intense. He also explained that the sunken appearance was also due to a loss of volume at my upper cheek area and injected Belotero Soft to create a fuller, more youthful look.
The dermal fillers were easy breezy and I expected that as much. I had a bit more apprehension towards the threadlift initially.
Here’s how the threadlift process looks like
Turns out my fears were really unfounded. The micro-cannula must have helped, because I hardly felt any discomfort and the threads were quickly and expertly inserted under the skin of my undereye area. It was much quicker than I expected.
I was pretty much zoning out; The Derma Spring Eye treatment was quite painless
