Trying to Conceive (TTC) can be a very stressful and trying time for any couple. For the lucky few, it may come instantly… but for the majority of couples (with no fertility issues), it takes 6 months to a year.
So how can you improve your odds naturally and easily? Apart from knowing your cycle and having sex during your fertile period, there are actually 5 things in addition to this which you can do to improve your odds of conception.
1. ENJOY the sex
I cannot stress this enough. This is the main reason (I feel) I got pregnant within the first month we stopped preventing pregnancy. We hadn’t even started to calculate when my fertile period was, and boom... Pregnant! Enjoying the sex is important for a couple of reasons… first is that trying to conceive becomes less stressful if you just enjoy the sex anyway, second is a physiological reason. You see, when you orgasm, your vagina contracts and this action powerfully draws semen up into the uterus sending those little soldiers well on their way to the egg.
Ok so even if you don’t enjoy the sex… because trying to conceive is indeed stressful, you may not have the time or energy to have an elaborate and indulgent sex session or maybe your partner is just crappy at sex. If you want to improve your odds of making a baby, make sure you orgasm. After he cums in you, get a vibrator out or use your fingers and pleasure yourself. Again the orgasm will create those useful contractions of the vagina.
3. Be careful of saliva
This one is not my personal experience but I do know of many couples who struggled to get pregnant and when I suggested not doing oral sex during the sessions where they’re trying to conceive, my adviced worked! While this will not affect a couple who are fertile and have good sperm count, saliva has enzymes in it which have a slight spermicidal effect. Studies show that saliva can impair sperm motility when a man already has decreased sperm count. If you must have oral sex during foreplay, just be careful not to get huge gobs of saliva in there.
From after your period ends right up to ovulation. My theory is that pleasuring yourself, perhaps for just a few minutes before you fall asleep, is the easiest and most fuss free way to having an orgasm. The orgasm sends a rush of blood to the uterus and ovaries. This increase in blood flow to the area helps to thicken the uterine lining leading up to ovulation. So when the egg is finally fertilised, it can easily find a rich and secure spot to implant itself. The regular increase in blood circulation to the ovaries also help stimulate ovulation.
5. Don’t Store SPERM
A lot of couples make the mistake of keeping a strong reserve of sperm by not having sex or ejaculating for a couple weeks before the woman’s fertile period. No no no… sperm will replenish itself and you don’t want old ineffective sperm sitting there waiting for your fertile window. You want fresh and healthy sperm when the time is right! It is recommended that the man ejaculates 2 to 3 days before the woman’s fertile window because that is how long on average it takes for his sperm to replenish itself.
I hope these honest truths from me help you on your TTC journey. Good luck and baby dust to you!
